Kathmandu Met Signs Deal with Goswara Post for Mail Delivery
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has signed a one-year agreement with Goswara Post Office to deliver official letters, parcels, and documents across the country.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has signed a formal agreement with the Goswara Post Office in Dillibazaar to handle the dispatch and delivery of its official mail, transitioning municipal correspondence into the state postal network. Under the one-year agreement, the postal service will manage the delivery of municipal letters, reports, invitations, certificates, and administrative parcels to government agencies, partner institutions, and individuals.
According to reporting by Nepal Press and Kendrabindu, the memorandum was signed on Friday in the presence of KMC Chief Administrative Officer Mukti Ram Aryal. Mahesh Kafle, head of the metropolis's Administration Department, signed on behalf of the city authority, while Chief Postal Officer Dhal Bahadur GC represented the Dillibazaar post office. Kafle told Gorkhapatra and Nagarik News that the partnership aims to make municipal mail delivery more systematic, secure, and punctual.
Under the operational framework, outgoing communications from all municipal departments, divisions, secretariats, project units, and subordinate offices will first be assembled at KMC's Central Liaison Unit. The metropolis will log the dispatches with complete addresses and contact information for the recipients before handing them over to postal authorities. As reported by Nagarik News, the post office will record the items into its digital tracking system, sort them, and dispatch them to intended recipients either directly or via designated delivery agents.
The agreement introduces several tiers of delivery depending on urgency and geography. For critical documents within the metropolitan boundaries, the post office will provide a same-day delivery service for items weighing up to two kilograms. Registered mail and parcel consignments up to two kilograms within the city are scheduled for delivery on the following business day.
For surrounding jurisdictions within the Kathmandu Valley—including other local levels across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts—registered items will be transferred the next day and delivered either on the same day or the following day where feasible, state news agency RSS reported via Gorkhapatra. Correspondence bound for destinations across Nepal's other 74 districts will follow the regular dispatch schedule of the national postal network. The service also incorporates Express Mail Service (EMS) for urgent regional requirements.
To ensure security, KMC has committed to robust packaging to prevent loss, tearing, or physical damage in transit, while postal staff are mandated to maintain strict oversight. If a recipient refuses to accept a package or delivery cannot be completed, the items will be returned to the municipal liaison unit. Goswara Post Office will provide signed delivery receipts back to the city administration alongside itemised monthly invoices for the postal services rendered.
