No reader accounts, no advertising trackers

You do not need an account to read Tiroom, and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Counting reads

When you open an article or a story, your browser tells us which page it was, so that we can show how often it has been read and what is being read most. We store a count per page per day — not who read it.

So that one person refreshing a page is not counted as many readers, our server briefly remembers your IP address alongside the page you opened. That is kept in memory only, never written to our database, and forgotten within half an hour or when the server restarts.

What is stored on your device

Your browser keeps a few small preferences for this site: your light or dark theme, which newsrooms in “Just in” you have already opened, and which pages have already been counted this session. They stay on your device and are not sent to us. The only cookie we set is the sign-in cookie used by our own staff.

Content from other sites

Pictures in “Just in” load directly from the publisher's own website, which, like any website, can see the address they are requested from. An embedded video loads from YouTube only once you press play, using its privacy-enhanced mode. A post from X is shown without contacting X at all.

Server logs

Like most websites, our servers keep technical logs of requests — the address, the time and the page — for security and to fix problems. They are not used to profile readers.

Changes

If what we record changes, this page will change with it. The date at the top says when it was last updated.
