Authorities in Jumla have ramped up market inspections and secured essential salt reserves ahead of the Dashain and Tihar festivals. Joint monitoring teams led by the District Administration Office and the Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office inspected 25 retail outlets across Chandannath Municipality, acting under the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2024 (2081 BS). Regulators destroyed substandard, spoiled, and expired goods worth over Rs 52,000, citing violations including poor shop sanitation and the use of prohibited artificial colors.
Concurrently, state supply mechanisms have been reinforced to prevent festival shortages of daily necessities. The Salt Trading Corporation branch office in Jumla maintains a reserve of 1,049 quintals after selling 768 quintals from an initial stock of 1,817 quintals. Supplies are being routed from Khalanga to depots in Narakot and Guthichaur to serve Sinja, Hima, and Kanakasundari rural municipalities.
With no annual quota established for Jumla's depots this fiscal year, the local branch has requested extra shipments from Nepalgunj to forestall potential disruptions. In addition, several local governments are procuring salt directly from district headquarters for distribution through local ward offices.
