Siraha APF Intercepts 1.1 Tonnes of Marijuana and Contraband Haul
The Armed Police Force in Siraha has confiscated over 1.1 tonnes of marijuana and impounded Rs 1.65 million worth of smuggled commercial goods in separate border sweeps.
The Armed Police Force (APF) in Siraha seized more than 1,100 kilograms of marijuana alongside smuggling consignments valued at over Rs 1.65 million during separate enforcement operations along border transit routes.
In the drug bust, security personnel confiscated 1,102.655 kilograms of cannabis loaded into 26 sacks near the Gagan Khola bridge at Vishwakarma Chowk in Sukhipur Municipality-10. As reported by Setopati and Onlinekhabar, the operation occurred during late-night security checks on Wednesday night. Onlinekhabar noted the interception happened around 12:36 AM, while Setopati placed the timing at approximately 1:00 AM.
According to APF Co-Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shailendra Thapa, cited by Setopati, a joint deployment from the APF No. 7 Battalion Security Base in Golbazar and the Sukhipur Security Base impounded a Bolero jeep bearing registration Ba 14 Cha 294 and a motorcycle registered as Sa 6 Pa 4859. Armed Police Superintendent (SP) Suman Jung Thapa, chief of the APF No. 7 Battalion Headquarters in Siraha, told Onlinekhabar that the suspects abandoned both vehicles and fled into the dark after spotting approaching patrol units. The seized contraband and transport vehicles are being transferred to authorities for further legal processing.
Crackdown on Cross-Border Smuggling
The narcotics seizure closely followed a widespread border sweep across Siraha in which APF units impounded illegally transported commercial freight worth Rs 1,650,463. As reported by Onlinekhabar, the seized inventory included garments, motorcycles, groceries, tobacco, cosmetics, toys, hardware goods, alcoholic drinks, beverages, prescription medicines, spectacles, motor parts, sweets, and picture frames.
SP Thapa stated that the merchandise, caught while moving illegally in both directions across the Nepal-India frontier, was delivered to the Siraha Customs Office.
Smuggling seizures in the district have surged in recent months. According to figures provided by SP Thapa, border units confiscated uncustomed exports and imports valued at roughly Rs 29.5 million across Shrawan and Bhadra (mid-July to mid-September). By Ashwin 11 (September 27), security teams had impounded additional contraband worth around Rs 5.3 million.
