'Chhattis Ko Aankada' Sets Mangsir 17 Theatrical Release
Producers of the upcoming Nepali film 'Chhattis Ko Aankada' have announced a nationwide theatrical release for Mangsir 17, coinciding with veteran actress Niruta Singh's birthday celebration.
The production team behind the upcoming Nepali feature film Chhattis Ko Aankada has locked its nationwide theatrical release for Mangsir 17, producers announced during an event in Kathmandu.
The release date was made public on Monday at actress and filmmaker Rekha Thapa's BR Cafe, coinciding with the birthday celebration of veteran actress Niruta Singh, according to reports by Setopati and Onlinekhabar. Mangsir 17 in the Bikram Sambat calendar corresponds to early December.
Directed by Sabir Shrestha, the movie is produced jointly by Rekha Films and Kites Entertainment. Countrywide theatrical distribution will be handled by RR Films, owned by Rohit Kattel and Ratna Shrestha, according to Setopati and Ratopati.
The film features an ensemble cast led by Thapa, Singh, Pooja Sharma, Mahesh Tripathi, and Pushpa Khadka. According to Setopati and Onlinekhabar, the core narrative centers on an intense confrontation between two female protagonists. Promotional posters released earlier show Thapa playing a police officer placing Sharma's character in handcuffs. In the romantic subplots, Tripathi stars opposite Thapa, while Khadka is paired with Sharma, marking the duo's first on-screen pairing together.
The project marks several notable industry reunions. Thapa and Singh are sharing screen space for the first time in years, having previously appeared together in Dui Pal, Setopati reported. Shrestha has directed Thapa in multiple previous movies, including Kasle Choryo Mero Man, Kali, Tathastu, Ishara, and Ram Pyari, according to Onlinekhabar. The movie also reunites Thapa and Sharma after their work together on the film Upahar.
Ukera reported that the feature was originally slated for a Chaitra 27 release before facing postponements due to incomplete technical post-production work. Describing the film as a blend of family drama, comedy, and action driven by step-sister friction, Ukera noted that Thapa faces heightened pressure to deliver a commercial success following the poor box-office performance of Upahar.
Ukera noted that co-lead Sharma was absent from the birthday gathering and release announcement at BR Cafe, where cast members Khadka and Tripathi and director Shrestha celebrated with Singh and Thapa.
Producers plan to accelerate publicity in the coming weeks, with the film's first song scheduled for release on the day of Ghatasthapana, Setopati and Onlinekhabar reported.
